We stand on the precipice of what Davos in 2016 coined as the Fourth Industrial Revolution, a pending disruption that will soon transform how we live, work, and play. This tsunami of dramatic change will be more profound in its scope and faster in pace than anything like it in history. Unlike other Industrial Revolutions, it will, during the next short decade, have a far greater impact, than any of the previous three industrial revolutions each of which more slowly made its mark over centuries.
Driven by Artificial Intelligence, the Blockchain, Robotics, and the Internet of Things, your response to this change, as a corporation, or as an individual need to be insightful and predictive. For companies, it also needs to be well architected, integrated and comprehensive.
The First Industrial Revolution leveraged the possibilities of coal and steam power to mechanize production. The Second used electric power, and the internal combustion engine to enable mass production. The Third today deploys computers and software to systematize production and the supply chain. Now we are on the cusp of a Fourth Industrial Revolution driven by ever smarter massive parallel computers that can see, touch, hear and feel. Through; “deep learning”; computers and robotics can now reliably and consistently do an ever-increasing array of complex logical and physical tasks, with more precision, speed, and agility than people. As their speed, intelligence and adaptability inevitably increase, their cost will consistently decrease. There are four reasons why today’s transformation is unprecedented. Its speed of change, the scope of influence, depth of impact, and potential for harm as well as a potential for benefit has no historical precedent. Moreover, it will one-by-one disrupt every conceivable industry, and redefine, if not eliminate, many if not most professions that exist today. The breadth and depth of these changes will make current systems of production, current computer systems and current approaches to management and governance obsolete.

|Blockchain is an emerging technology most simply referred to as the “trust” protocol. When implemented it obviates the need for a trusted third party, to independently verify a log of transactions. It can move from business models away from the historical trust in institutions (banks, title management companies, patent offices, record companies, ensuring institutions..) to trust in mathematics. Every block in the blockchain ledger has a mathematical hash of itself and of the previous records hash in such a way that any modification to any previous record in the blockchain nullifies the overall integrity of the chain. Some smart software ensures that if this occurs on one of the nodes, the other nodes will collectively, without human intervention, fix the problem and ensure overall integrity of the ledger (chain) makes the ledger immutable, without the need for a centralized trusted authority. This educational offering will bring business leaders up to speed in terms of what it can, should and likely will do to disrupt/transform your industry||AI is the process by which machines learn from experience either from data gathered through previous technologies, or data gathered through many computer iterations. In effect, the machines learn from their successes and execute logic based on those experiences through what is called deep learning, as opposed to code hard programmed by humans. Today machines can learn from their experiences, adjust to new inputs and perform human-like tasks, more specifically they can now, “See, Hear, Touch, and Feel”. Examples range from Chess, to Go, to self-driving cars, to translation, to help systems, to radiology, to the military. Neural networks build clustering and classification layers on top of the data stored and managed, to group according to patterns that they train on.
